It is quite usual for people to be in two minds about starting counselling.
This is one of the reasons why we’re offering our families the opportunity to book a ‘counselling taster session’ with one of our trained counsellors which is a ‘gentle introductory’ meeting that’ll explore three main areas:
- Firstly, it’s a confidential space where you can discuss the issues you would like to address in a safe and supportive way and obtain answers to your initial questions.
- Secondly, it’s an opportunity to consider your next steps: You’ll also be able to discuss what kinds of therapy might best fit your needs and circumstances.
- Thirdly, you can then go and make a more informed decision about whether or not you would like to start counselling in your local area in the future.

Each session is 40 minutes and we are pleased to offer these tasters free of charge to Duchenne families. You do not need to take anything with you to the virtual face-to-face session, and do not need to prepare anything. We encourage you to sign up, to give the sessions a try. Places are limited so please book as soon as possible.

The 40 minute session with Diane will give you an opportunity to express your feelings and explore a plan for the future to help you to be supported emotionally should you need it.
About the counsellors – Louise
Hear from one of our counsellors, Louise, about her ‘space to talk’ sessions.
If you feel that you are going through the day wondering how things could be different or how you might be able to manage things differently then this is your chance to verbalise your thoughts and feelings without judgement and feeling disloyal to others you may feel you burden with your struggles.
