A huge thank you and well done to the incredible Alexis Ellison who completed his 24 hour mammoth bike ride – cycling the 9 mile road back and forth from his home town of St Neots to Godmanchester for a whole 24 hours, completely unsupported!
He was joined by our very own Helen Keenan on Saturday afternoon, then his gorgeous eldest son Leo (8) and local radio DJ cycled the last 9 mile leg to help push him over the finish line, covering 214 miles in 24 hours.
The idea stemmed from Lex’s desire to fundraise for Action Duchenne, but to stay close to his family in case of an emergency. Recently, during his Neptune Steps challenge (350 miles from home in Glasgow), Lex’s son (who lives with Duchenne) was taken ill and needed treatment in hospital.
From an acorn of an idea, 5 weeks ago, the family have worked hard, along with support from the AD Fundraising Team to get their voice heard and generate interest in the event. They enlisted their local radio station, Round Table (who also donated £1,000), the Mayor’s office, local shops (including McColls), companies and organisations as well as friends and family to make this happen. They also did a street collection and Lex is taking part in the Skydive on Saturday. Their current fundraising total from their efforts over the last 5 weeks stands at £2,450 with more coming in.
