Over the coming months we’ll be sharing the stories of our incredible virtual and in person London Marathon runners. We are delighted to introduce our awesome father-son duo Ben and Harry…
Harry (age 4) and I will be doing the Virtual London Marathon in October. Its been 32 years since I ran the London Marathon, I was young and foolish then! So what’s my excuse to do it this year? Did I not learn from my mistakes?
Since lock down last year we have both been regularly terrorising the neighbourhood, myself with erratic pushchair steering and Harry with his beloved stick. We have enjoyed the Worcester countryside at a genteel jogging pace. So why not put some of this fitness gained to a very good use.
Harry was an unexpected late addition to our family of four. We had some
concerns about him from quite early on as his motor development seemed
much slower than his siblings’ had been at the same age.
It took around 13 months to get a diagnosis of Duchenne and in some ways that period of uncertainty was the most difficult time for us. Once we had a diagnosis we were able to reach out and find information and support.
Action Duchenne were there when we needed them. Over the past few years since Harry’s diagnosis Action Duchenne have been very good to us, giving us their time and answering any questions we had.
We’ve attended conferences and participated in a science on tour . We can see what great work the charity does and we feel that by raising money running the Virtual London Marathon we can help in some small way and give something back.
We’re currently still going on our excursions but now with a sense of purpose to try and find a pushchair friendly route around the quieter tow paths and roads of Droitwich Spa and Worcester.
